Family Guy

Family Guy is a comedy on FOX that is a fan favorite. It it so popular that it has been canceled twice, only to be brought back at the public's demand. It is hilarious, kind of a version 2.0 of The Simpsons.

The show is about the Griffins. Peter is the father, fat and slow witted, kind of a Homer Simpson rip-off. He's married to Lois, the smart woman that tries to keep the family sane (Marge Simpson?). Their kids are Chris, the dumb younger version of Peter; Meg, the unpopular reject, and Stewie, the sometimes evil sophisticated baby that can talk, in an English accent. His quotes are the best. Also, Brian is the dog that can talk and is accepted as part of society. Stewie and Peter compete for my favorite character. Minor characters are also funny, like Tom Tucker, Quagmire, and Mayor Adam West.

Funny moments come when flashbacks are shown, usually when a character mentions them, referencing other things. Like this. Also, when it goes to the extreme. Or, when it doesn't even make sense.

The show is now on FOX, TBS, DVD, and in syndication. Here's their website if you can't get enough.

Late Night with Conan O'Brien

Late Night with Conan O'Brien is a comedy talk show on NBC. It has been running for 13 years and in my opinion is better than Leno and Letterman.

Conan O'Brien is the host that usually does a great show. He is hilarious and doesn't hold back from making fun of himself. He starts with a monologue about current events, then he does a short segment that is the funniest part of the show, then he talks to the guests. Most of humor is just weird, and hilarious.

The funniest part of the show is that middle portion. He has done segments of him finding his heritage in Ireland, him practicing with a hockey team, him doing mock interviews with celebrities by just moving the mouth of them in a picture, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, and paradoies of popular culture. Also In The Year 2000 sketches.

Conan used to have a sidekick to joke around with, Andy Ritcher, but now jokes mostly with his drummer Max Weinberg, a band member named La Bamba, and the studio announcer Joel, who usually does sketches making fun of himself. Funny moments also come when Conan decides to dance, which is often.

I can't even begin to explain this show, so if you need more here is the whole deal on NBC.com.

The show will only be starring Conan until May when he takes over The Tonight Show since Leno is retiring. Hopefully he will be as good on that show as he is on this one. Here's a clip and here's a funnier one, the kind the show is built on.

The King of Queens

The King of Queens was a comedy on CBS that ran for nine seasons. It starred Kevin James, Leah Remini (who was on Saved by the Bell), and Jerry Stiller (who was on Seinfeld).

The show was about an "IPS" delievery man named Doug (James). Doug loves food, having a good time, and is sometimes a little immature and slow. His wife is Carrie (Remini), the sometimes mean paralegal. Arthur (Stiller) is Carrie's dad that lives with them and eats all their food and throws tantrums when he doesn't get his way.

Things are the funniest when Doug does something stupid and tries to cover it up from Carrie. It usually blows up in his face in the end. Another funny thing is that Doug and Carrie get so annoyed with Arthur that they hire a dog walker to take him on walks and get him out of the house.

This is a very funny show, but it never got the credit that it deserved, probably because it was always overshadowed by Everybody Loves Raymond, which was on the same night.

The King of Queens is now on TBS and DVD. Here's a funny clip.

Friends

Friends was a comedy on NBC that ran for ten seasons. It was about six friends in New York City that had funny little things happen to them.

The six friends were Ross, Racheal, Chandler, Monica, Joey, and Phoebe. Ross was a palentologist with nerdish qualities. He had an on-again-off-again relationship with Racheal, who was the good looking waitress (Jennifer Aniston). Chandler was the smart alec executive. He would eventually marry his long time friend Monica. Monica was Ross' sister and talented chef with OCD qualities about being neat. Joey was the funny bachelor of the show, portraying the typical man qualities of chasing women and loving Baywatch. He was a small time actor. Phoebe was the strange, artsy one that wrote a song about a smelly cat.

Most of the episodes dealt with some kind of relationship issue, leading to an awkward moment, then finally leading to an argument. America loved the show because they thought they could kind of relate it to their lives. The show lived on sarcastic comments and stupid Joey moments, and was best known for its theme song, I'll Be There For You by The Rembrandts.
Here's a clip.

Psych

Psych is a TV show on right now on the USA station. It is a mixture of a detective show and a comedy.

It's about a guy named Shawn that is a good detective but has to pretend that he's a psychic to get people to listen to him. His best friend Gus is his partner that is always trying to talk him out of dangerous situations. Gus usually can't, and Shawn leads them on a wild goose hunt until he finally solves the mystery.

Shawn originally becomes known as a psychic when, after calling in a tip on a crime covered on the news, the police become suspicious of his knowledge. Theorizing that such knowledge could only come from the inside, they are about to arrest him when he uses his observations to convince all present that he is psychic. The interim police chief warns Shawn that if his "powers" are fake, he will be prosecuted. With no choice but to keep up the act, he makes the most of it. Pretending to have psychic powers allows him to engage in strange and comic behavior as he turns real clues into hunches and otherworldly visitations.

The funniest moments come when Shawn pretends to get psychic information and overacts and pretends that he is in physical pain. Or when at the end of the episode they show a short, improvised "Psych Out".

Saved by the Bell

Saved by the Bell was a teenage comedy that was NBC for 5 years. It starred a group of teenagers and showed their mishaps through middle school and high school. It also dealt with very serious teen issues, including drug use, drinking and driving, homelessness, and death.

The star was Zack Morris, a preppy hotshot that was always in trouble with the Principal, Mr. Belding. Zack had an on-again-off-again realtionship with Kelly Kapowski, the popular cheerleader. Zack's best friend is the nerdy Screech Powers. Screech gets shoved into lockers a lot. A.C. Slater is the jock wrestler with a hotshot attitude that dates Jessie, the know-it-all A student. Lisa is the stylish of one of the group with a lot of money.

Saved by the Bell was the funniest when the gang gets in trouble and has to use a hair brained scheme to get out of it. Like when they want concert tickets so bad that they try to spend the whole night inside a shopping mall so they can be first in line in the morning, only to spend the whole night running from security and not getting the tickets at all.

The showed eventually ended with Zack marrying Kelly, and the show had many spinoffs. The show might have been best known by its theme song. You can sometimes find it on cable, and all the seasons are on DVD. Here's a Zack and Kelly tribute. And here's a goofy clip.

Everybody Loves Raymond

Everybody Loves Raymond was a comedy that ran for 9 years on CBS. It was based on Ray Romano's stand up comedy.

The show starred Ray as a well known sportswriter. He was married to Debra and had three kids. The twist in the series was that his parents lived right across the street. Marie was his mom that was overbearing and irratating. Frank was the dad that was unloving and tough. Also, Robert lived the parents and was a cop that was constantly jealous of Ray.

The best parts of the show are when everyone was fighting, which was usual. Or when Ray and Debra were fighting, which was even more usual.

The show was clever, and is now on DVD and TBS.
